Cass Phang: Taking the High Road
Leading a quiet, married life, Cass (short for
Cassapella) worked hard throughout her entire career
to convince others that she is a singer, not an idol.
Starting out in the record industry, Cass paved her
destiny by making contacts and singing backup for
singers such as Yuen Siu Cheung. Eventually, recording
executives recognized her talent and Cass has been
making albums since 1990, eventually collecting
various best female artist awards. Cass's road to success wasn't
always smooth. Even though she had great singles and a
beautiful voice, she had trouble in the popularity
department. Cass refused roles in movies and was hounded by the press by her plain looks. Changing record labels, Cass sought to
revamp her image by adding a different song flavor to
her repertoire - dance. The results of this change
placed Cass on all No. 1 hit charts. Some of her
albums afterwards achieved platinum status. Still,
Cass wasn't satisfied. Wanting to go beyond her
ability as a singer, Cass went on to produce several
songs on her album, Water. Then she took her career
further by producing albums for other artists. Letting
her creative side flow, Cass composed her first
single, "Old Homestead," from the album, Somewhere In
Time. Above all else, nothing makes Cass as happy as when she takes the
stage during a live event. It is within these moments,
that the relaxed, carefree, and happy Cass Phang,
lives one of her ultimate highs in life. She may not
be an idol, but she is certainly an artist with great
achievements.

Wonderful Singer

I thoroughly enjoy Cass Phang's music. Was first captivated by the theme song from "Dark Tales". Thereafter I have bought CDs after CDs recorded by her. She has a very pleasant voice that seem effortless and is well suited for her style of music. Music arrangement is also extremely good and I enjoy the melodies very much.
I like Cass Phang!

Cass is constantly changing!!!

Cass is one of the best singer in HK. Cass is also constantly changing. In 1995, Cass released a CD called "Outside the Window". The songs in this album are mostly powerful sad ballads. You may call this boring. But in 1996, Cass released a refreshing CD called "Clear Water". This is a light jazz/pop style album, with a lot of easylistening, classy and refreshing songs. In the same year, Cass released "Days when I'm holding you". The songs in this album are mostly light piano ballads, with a feeling of warmth in it. I called this a "comfortable at home" feeling.
Then in 1999, she released "Single Flower", with a EURO-POP feel. The songs in this album are mostly up-tempo, unlike her previous efforts, and this is such a big change in her music direction. In 2000, she released "As beautiful as you want". Again, Cass changes her music direction. This time,it is new-age, light electronic pop.
Cass is a singer who strives to be her best, and I admire her talent and effort.

Cass has always kept up with the times. She works with producers like Anthony Wong to project new sounds, new dimensions. It isn't her look that has sold records, and she is bold enough to admit that. Her voice is soaring, but this can be left up to the listener. Cheers to a singer who has never stopped re-inventing herself as an artist.

I'm saddened to see that Cass' profile is so negative. I really think Cass did make a contribution to my life. I bought her cassette without really knowing who she is and I was instantly attracted to her pure and charming voice. I used to sing along with her too. She is considered to be one of my top favorites. I thought of her album as great and I hope to see more of her songs on HKVP radio.
