Cass Phang: Taking the High Road
Leading a quiet, married life, Cass (short for
Cassapella) worked hard throughout her entire career
to convince others that she is a singer, not an idol.
Starting out in the record industry, Cass paved her
destiny by making contacts and singing backup for
singers such as Yuen Siu Cheung. Eventually, recording
executives recognized her talent and Cass has been
making albums since 1990, eventually collecting
various best female artist awards. Cass's road to success wasn't
always smooth. Even though she had great singles and a
beautiful voice, she had trouble in the popularity
department. Cass refused roles in movies and was hounded by the press by her plain looks. Changing record labels, Cass sought to
revamp her image by adding a different song flavor to
her repertoire - dance. The results of this change
placed Cass on all No. 1 hit charts. Some of her
albums afterwards achieved platinum status. Still,
Cass wasn't satisfied. Wanting to go beyond her
ability as a singer, Cass went on to produce several
songs on her album, Water. Then she took her career
further by producing albums for other artists. Letting
her creative side flow, Cass composed her first
single, "Old Homestead," from the album, Somewhere In
Time. Above all else, nothing makes Cass as happy as when she takes the
stage during a live event. It is within these moments,
that the relaxed, carefree, and happy Cass Phang,
lives one of her ultimate highs in life. She may not
be an idol, but she is certainly an artist with great
achievements.
