Transformation
Rosa from CA, USA on January 13, 2005
Three young pretty boys who could dance and sing a few tunes was all I could say when I first heard of them back in 87. But these three boys didn’t seem to be satisfied with a boyband title, their dance moves were kept up to date and remained catchy and frequently surprised their audience. To further widen their horizon, in merely two years, the group had started composing their branded lyrics and music. The transformation was only served to prove to us that they are not just some teeny poppers who could bust a few moves and whistle a few tunes. Grasshopper had never stopped striving for better music, performances and even personal growth. In the early 90’s, upon the release of their first Mandarin album, many were impressed with the music. In contrary, I was critical of their Mandarin pronunciations in their singing and interviews. To my surprise, when the second Mandarin album was released, I was so impressed with how much they improved in the language. I know that it didn’t happen without much sweats and effort of these three boys behind the stage. These guys never failed to learn and grow and prove you wrong.
Great work Grasshopper! You are indeed the role model for many young audiences!

Grasshopper's music is the best. It will forever remain the greatest. May all the classics replay in our hearts because it will never get old and out of date. Grasshopper music will never stop being beautiful.
A pre-boyband era boyband
John on October 16, 2004
Grasshoppers appeared at about the same time (or just after) Beyond became "red" (hong), and are at the ideological and technical opposite end of the spectrum, and since the opposite of rockers are boybands, you get the idea! The Grasshoppers are unfortunately less-than-stellar musicians who were part of the herald that ushered the fall of Cantopop's golden era in the 80s and early 90s. Their music is below par for those in their time frame, and unlike Andy Hui, this selection by Miss Anita for disciples is truly baffling. I hate to be a negative nelly, but I'm telling the truth: Grasshoppers = boyband.
