A veteran singer who has definitely made his mark in HK's music industry. He is extremely talented, and has a great voice. I definitely believe that he has had a great career, and all new artists should at least be aware of some of his accomplishments if they want to succeed.

How come Johny fell on the category of 70s? I know he started as the male vocal of a local musical group in 70s but that wasn't the phrase that we recognize his talent. Only until 80s his greatest Cantonese genre hit the street rendering him known to the public. At a time where hi-fidelity audio equipments became popular among us, I started off as a musical fan plying between classical and pop music. His amazing pitch, able to soar between octaves in a single verse...my electrostatic headphones did pick up the details of his marvellous performance letting me to discern the nuance of musical qualities possess by the singer. He is a pro!!Johny has the mastery of the singing and knack for picking up on all the best melodicists and lyricists from all the song writers.

I was never really aware of who Johnny Yip is until recently. I have of course seen a lot of the TVB series and know a lot of the theme songs by heart, but I never did care back then who sang them. As I got older (I'm actually only in my twenties but consider myself an old fashion guy :), I became very nostalgic of old TV theme songs, and as I went through the list of my favorite songs, I realized a lot of them were sang by Johnny. Modern theme songs just does not carry the same substance and inspirational melodies as the old ones, but at least we'll always have Johnny's songs to cherish. On that note, if anyone know of a good way/site to download old HK TV theme songs, please let me know, I've had a hard time finding a lot of them on MP3.
