Shirley Kwan, what a character! She has a very, very cool mystique presence, her voice is like an angel humming. If you're tired of the generic, manufactured music so common to modern network air waves, Shirley Kwan's music is for you. The tonality of her albums are filled with beautiful depth, meaning, soul, jazz, good melody, haunting voice, lots of heart and soul.
Her haunting voice invites a sense of intimacy to the whole pleasure of listening. Powerful and ethereal, Shirley best showcases her vocal talents in "Midnight at the Harbor" and "Is There a Soulmate in Life?". One minute she sings in a soft-spoken undertone, the next you're completely blown away by a voice that resonates an alluring intensity. Shirley definitely has real finesse when it comes to creating unforgettable melodies that will stick in your head for years to come...I just can't wait for her to re-emerge in the music scene.
A character, yes, but what an artist, too!

I only have one song sang by Shirley Kwan and it is sang together with Hacken Lee. It was given to me by a friend. I loved the song but unfortunately, being English educated, I do not know the title.
Infact, i did not know the singer although I liked listening to her voice. Many years back, I saw her on TV singing the song with Hacken Lee.
I wish that the music shops sell CDs with the English names of the singers to help English educated listeners to buy the correct CDs.
To this day, The Most Incredible Voice

So what's a white guy, who speaks neither Mandarin or Cantonese (at that time) driving around town with Shirley Kwan blasting on the stereo? Well, it was quite by accident her '95 VCD got mixed up with my other video rental back in '96. Changed my life, speak some Mandarin now, spent a year in China, married a Chinese girl. I purchased all of Shirley's CDs and still listen to them all the time. Almost every other CD I have purchased since that time has been of Chinese singers, yet Shirley's uniquely excellent voice is my most favorite, and noone else comes close to having as many hits that I like. I would have travelled anywhere in the world in a moments notice to see Shirley sing, still would, but could never find if she ever had another performance. I really think Shirley deserves the awe of everyone who can appreciate the voice and art of a true Diva. I truly appreciate not having missed the sweetest voice I have ever heard, and have heard so many great songs even though I didn't understand them at the time, they just sounded great I couldn't stop listening. Thank you Shirley, one of my greatest wishes would be to see you perform, and for you to know that so many people appreciate and truly love the incredible gift you share with us.
Good Shirley.

Shirley was a best singer, she is like an angel with those girl Priscilla Chan, Vivian Chow, Linda Wong, Karen Tong and Vivian Lai. Those girl who had a great talented can sing their beautiful voices. Everyone who loves Shirley Kwan will always support her. I wonder if she can perform in concert or maybe not because I never see her in concert for long time, well best of Shirley Kwan.
The Story of a Tragedy

I will always remember Shirley for her great voice, unique music interpretation and original style. No, she does not possess the technical ability of Faye nor is she as diligent as Sandy, but when she was at her best, Shirley did carve out an irreplaceable niche in the HK music industry and captured us with her songs. So it is all the more sad and tragic to see such a special singer physically and mentally decline (how can she smoke so much when she possesses such a voice?) and written off by negative press reports.
It is quite painful for a fan to see her in such a bad state, she had so many opportunities for a comeback....if it had come to this, I would have preferred she didn't attempt to relaunch her career after she left Polygram in 1996 and stay permanently retired, get married and have kids properly. A great talent gone to waste, never having achieved her full potential.
